Evie Grace, former vice detective, former Avenging Angel and now a Fallen Angel -- though determined to win back her angelic Grace -- is up to her wing bones in trouble.
Someone is starting to release the Seventy-Two Demons of the Well and stealing fearsomely powerful holy relics. These thefts have the Watchers -- ancient earthbound angels -- very concerned. The thefts point to a much deeper mystery and the Watchers order Evie to find out what is going on.
Though Evie is tempted to yell, "You're not the boss of me!" since, technically, she only answers to the Celestials, she holds herself back. It's becomes very clear, very quickly, that the Watchers have every right to worry.
Together with her lover, Trick -- a reformed Reaper, sort of reformed -- they track several of the relics to a Black Auction held by one of Los Angeles' most powerful demons, Belencourt. The auction takes place in the basement of his wildly popular dance/lounge/restaurant, The Hollywood Bed Club.
