Tokyo DisneySea Halloween

Tokyo DisneySea is a unique, Japan only Disney Park. Its designed around the concept of seaside lands: Mediterranean Harbor; American Waterfront; Mysterious Island; Lost River Delta; Little Mermaid Lagoon; Port Discovery; Arabian Coast.

Their Halloween celebration centers around a fantastic show on the central lagoon, "Festival of Mystique." The festival features Renaissance costumed song and dance with everyone's favorite Disney characters plus Halloween/Sea themed ships that cruise around the lagoon with the performers, shooting fire and etc.

Like Tokyo Disneyland, the real attraction is watching visitors in fantastic Disney-themed costumes. Thousands of people come in costumes from simple to so ornate they look like they are in a movie.

There are only a few decorated locations set up for photo ops in the American Waterfront area.Though limited, the Halloween Photo spots are opulent!

Halloween at Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Sea isn't just about costumes. Every year new Halloween parades, floats, and decorations appear. This has been going on for a long time. Many Disney fans don't realize the U.S. parks were inspired by Japan's decorating enthusiasm and upped their game.

installations in the central plaza between main street and the castle are everyone's favorite photo spot. Particularly the one in the center framing the castle. Every year is different. Every year is amazing.

Just like California, Tokyo's Haunted Mansion transforms into its 'Nightmare Before Christmas' version and the lines are just as long. It is not as handsomely decorated in the boarding area as the LA Park, but the rest of the ride is the same.

In Toontown, Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy's houses all have their unique scarecrows just like in the U.S. The happy haunting touches in Toontown don’t change much from year to year.

The gates at the entrance to Tokyo’s Toontown were always spectacular at Halloween – until now. Currently the area around Toontown and Tomorrowland is undergoing a total transformation into Arundel from Disney’smegahit movie,Frozen (andFrozen 2!) One of the parking lots heroically gave its life so Arundel could be built.

Ghosts, Goblins and CosPlayers Come out To Play!

Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea are spook central for all things Halloween from the first week of September right through October 31st. The decorations, parades, souvenirs, sweets, and treats have made this the most popular (and profitable) time of the year for the Tokyo Disney Parks. But there's more to it than that.

During the two-month long Halloween event, visitors are allowed on specific days to walk around the park in full-on Cosplay costumes – as long as they are Disney themed and not too revealing.

And come they do.

Visitors mob the park in jaw-dropping costumes most of which are homemade. Disney Princesses, heroes, villains, animals, monsters, both famous and obscure.

Japanese higher education and society in general traditionally praise and encourage conformity and obedience. Imagination is often not considered a cultural imperative in adults.

But of course, people want more. They want to be creative.

Halloween lets them shine!
